Metropolitan co-sponsors bill to restrict use of drinking water to irrigate non-functional turf

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has officially signed on as a co-sponsor of statewide legislation that would prohibit businesses 和 institutions from using drinking water to irrigate decorative or non-functional lawns.

In October, Metropolitan’s board adopted a 决议 strongly recommending that cities 和 water agencies across Southern California pass ordinances permanently prohibiting the installation 和 irrigation of non-functional turf in existing 和 new commercial, 工业 和 public properties, 以及居屋协议. It also called for local regulations that prohibit the installation of non-functional turf in new home construction.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a state-established cooperative that, along with its 26 cities 和 retail suppliers, provides water for 19 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the 科罗拉多河 和 Northern California to supplement local supplies, 和 helps its members to develop increased water conservation, 回收, storage 和 other resource-management programs.
